What is affordance?
In 1977, American psychologist James J. Gibson first proposed the concept of ‘Affordance’, which means that the environment provides the user with the possibility of action. For example, when people see a chair, it can make people sit down to rest or stand on it or throw it away.

With the development and progress of design, the concept of ‘Affordance’ has become a very important factor for designers to consider when designing. The purpose and significance of design is to make people’s life more convenient, so designers should simplify the steps in the process of “design” and not bring more troubles to users when using the product. So the user can use these items by designing them to evoke the user’s perception, without relying on pictures, words or labels.

Although the concept has been introduced, it is not entirely possible to design products with the perception of reality, as this may have a negative impact on users. Therefore, in future design, designers should not only consider the user’s perception of the product, but also consider the negative impact on it. Only by balancing the balance of the two, can they design a better product.
