Before the beginning of the second semester, I read the papers given by my tutor, and I picked out An article named “An Internet of Old Things” as a summary. This is the new phenomenon of the ‘Internet of Things’, where barcodes or other modern means are used to record the history of every item, from its manufacture to the dump. Notably, this phenomenon focuses more on the ‘contact’ with the previous owner than on quantitative data.

‘Internet of Things’ gives each item a unique identity by describing the story between the item and its previous owner. Such humanistic care makes them seem to have life, instead of being cold products produced by quantification. I can clearly recall the location and story of every important purchase, but I didn’t write it down before. After reading this article, I think recording in this way can make people cherish every item more, instead of buying new and unnecessary goods without control.
