Choice on the road of design
Design was originally a craft that focused on creating beautiful objects, and today it is a technology for people to interact with the world, focusing on experience rather than technology. But today’s attention to design is not enough.
Today’s design needs to be learned through technical knowledge and mastery of equipment. The solutions to these problems come from development outside of design. Among the new developments in design, human-centered design is the most important, with several fundamental principles, the end product is intended to improve the quality of life of the people who use the product, and design thinking is a controversial term that helps to distinguish the new era in question from the traditional craft based era.
Design educators should encourage students to learn more about technology and the social sciences. Modern design is the domain of creators and doers. Design is not only about creating enjoyable objects, it can also be the basis for all departments across the university.
Consider design from two perspectives: one, its traditional role as a craft, and two, design thinking as a way of thinking and discovery to solve fundamental problems. And the central design is always the main concern and focus of people.
Design as a handicraft and design thinking are two indispensable aspects of design. Design as a handicraft in a world of new tools and materials and new manufacturing methods. Design thinking should have a new home where design thinkers can move up the organizational ladder and become leaders. Today’s design world needs both thinkers and doers.
